LaPorte District Lane Restriction/Closure Update

LAPORTE, IN - The following lane restrictions and road closures are current or upcoming for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) LaPorte District. Comprised of 13 counties in Northwest Indiana, the LaPorte District includes Lake, Porter, LaPorte, St. Joseph, Newton, Jasper, Starke, Marshall, Pulaski, Fulton, White, Cass and Carroll counties.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Novel H1N1 Influenza virus is still provoking severe illness and fatalities in a generally younger population, and cases are expected to increase in the fall.  Influenza viruses are unpredictable, so the symptoms and severity of the disease may change.  Therefore, the extent of the challenges we will face in the weeks and months ahead is unknown, but communication and flexibility will be crucial to accomplishing our mission of slowing and limiting the spread of H1N1.

I-69 Lane Restrictions Due to Traffic Maintenance Work Set for Next Week

Restrictions in Grant County for two days during daytime hours

GRANT COUNTY, IN - The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces that two restrictions on August 5 and August 6, will occur in the I-69 northbound and southbound lanes, at 4.16 miles north of S.R. 18. Both dates will have a 12-foot restriction due to traffic maintenance work.

Indianapolis Man Sentenced to 57 Months for Hurricane Katrina Fraud

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Jimmy Alexander, 38, Indianapolis, Indiana, was sentenced to 57 months in prison on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 by U.S. District Chief Judge David F. Hamilton following his guilty plea to conspiracy to steal public money, announced Timothy M. Morrison, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana.

State Reports High Levels of Blue-Green Algae at Morse and Geist Reservoirs

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Indiana State Department of Health has been notified of an increase of blue-green algae at Geist and Morse Reservoirs in addition to an elevated level of microcystin (an algal toxin) at Geist.

Working collaboratively with the Hamilton and Marion County Health Departments, state health officials want Hoosiers to be aware and use caution when swimming, skiing, or participating in other recreational activities in either reservoir.

White River Fish Kill was Caused by Algae Bloom

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - A fish kill in the White River near Rocky Ripple in Marion County noticed by members of the public late last week appears to be the result of an excessive algae bloom.

State Road 57 to Close in Petersburg

Repairs to be made to Indiana Southern Railroad crossing

PETERSBURG, IN - The Indiana Department of Transportation announces that State Road 57 (S.R. 57) will be closing in Petersburg. 

Working in conjunction with Indiana Southern Railroad officials, INDOT will be closing S.R. 57 from the junction of State Road 56 (S.R. 56) in Petersburg to the junction of State Road 64 (S.R. 64) in Oakland City.  Indiana Southern Railroad will be rebuilding their crossing, at the S.R. 56 Junction.
